What it costs to run
A .com registration, renewed once a year. Static hosting, currently on a free tier this site is nowhere near the limits of. Text-to-speech for the narration, billed by the character, which is the only line that moves at all with output. The typefaces are open-licensed and the translation is public domain, so neither of those costs anything.
That is the whole list. There is no server, no subscription stack, no office, no team and no rent. I am not going to inflate it into a hardship, because it is not one: the site would carry on existing at roughly this quality if nobody ever gave it anything.
What money would actually change
Hours on the reading, which is the slow part. Producing a page is not what takes the time. Checking it is — finding out whether a scholar actually holds the position a page attributes to them, reading the whole chapter rather than the verse, and finding where the argument breaks before a reader finds it. That is the work that gets cut when there is no time for it, and it is the only reason this site is worth more than the fiftieth blog post on the same question.
Concretely: there are thirty written answers here and the plan was forty. The ten that are missing are missing because each of them is several evenings of reading before a word can be written.
What it does not buy
It does not unlock anything, because nothing here is locked. Every answer is complete, free, and stays that way. There is no supporters’ tier, no early access, no members-only page, and there is not going to be one. A site whose whole argument is that it does not flatten a hard question into an easy one cannot then sell the unflattened version.
It does not buy any influence over what a page says either. If you think an answer is wrong, the way to change it is to show that it is wrong, and that route is open to everyone and costs nothing.
Where
Ko-fi, one-off or a small amount each month. A monthly one can be stopped at any point without writing to anybody. Ko-fi takes nothing from a one-off payment and the card processor takes its usual few percent, and you do not need an account to give once.
YouTube’s own support buttons are not an option here and it is worth saying why rather than leaving it looking like a choice. Channel Memberships and Super Thanks both require the YouTube Partner Program, which needs 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last ninety days, and either 3,000 public watch hours in a year or three million Shorts views in ninety days. This channel does not meet any of those numbers.

There is no link here yet, because there is no account yet. When the Ko-fi page exists its address goes in data/site.mjs and this becomes a button. Until then this page is telling you the truth about where things stand rather than sending you somewhere that does not exist.
If you would rather not
Two things are worth more to a site this size than money is, and both are free.
Send a correction. If a verse is misquoted, a position is misdescribed, or a source does not say what a page claims it says, write to hello@thefairquestion.com. Corrections to quoted scripture are treated as urgent, and the log is public.
Send a page to someone who is arguing about the thing it is about. That is the whole distribution plan. There is no advertising budget and there is not going to be one.
